It has felt like autumn since about the 2nd week of June. Now at least the leaves and trees have caught up just in time for the record temperatures of 30 degrees in October!
It has been months since the last WSJ and I have no excuse save for being spread a little too thinly across our various enterprises. Don’t often find me and thinly in the same sentence. The highlights of the non- existent summer have been our continued involvement with the second OSfest, our weekend aside the lake at Glansevern as the restaurant for the Welsh Food Festival and several forays into spectacular outside catering.
Still, there's no rest for the wicked and we find ourselves staring down the barrel of a quickly-approaching Christmas season!
However, we're feeling reasonably confident that we are pretty well organised; the menus and order forms are ready and - generally - we think we know what we are doing. You can take a peek at all Christmas information on the web-site
Thankfully, as usual, demand for Christmas Day lunch is very healthy and, as we publish this, we have around 30 spaces left.
In a departure from the last few years we are not going to open on Boxing Day. New Years Eve is to follow the established format of a civilised dinner and home for cocoa or champagne before midnight.
There is so much to learn about this age of technological advancement. We are now up and running with our new internet shopping site.
I’m certain that Amazon, Ebay and Google are absolutely terrified and alarmed at our move into internet retailing. Our cleverly top secret wine and gift shop - Pssssst! - hidden away in mysterious Woolpack Alley, next door to The Willow Cafe & Gallery is now loaded on to web for a fully-fledged armchair shopping experience.
So far, a trickle of orders have followed my initial test order of 6 wine glasses ( as yet not delivered) and we are gearing up for a torrent over the festive period.
We are putting together a succinct and VFM range of hampers and Christmas drink packages, starting with the “Ebeneezer”. We have expanded our range of the brilliant Branche d’ Olive cosmetic, soaps & fragrances, taken on other lines from the expanding Sloe Motion catalogue – their sloe whisky is brilliant.
