April / May 2003... APRIL FOOLS EDITION!
|

THE FIRST AND MOST EXCELLENT COMEDY NIGHT
Sunday 27th April
Phillipa, our larger than life and faster than lightning human dynamo, has spent a huge amount of energy in putting together this very special evening. This is destined to be a regular event following what is bound to be a fantastic initial evening.
The show is compèred by rising star Brendan Riley and headlined by Paul Tonkinson, ably supported by Reginald D Hunter who is the Perrier nominee for best newcomer. Paul Tonkinson won Time Out ‘Stand up comic of the year’.
“Breathtaking” ~ The Independent.
The acts speak for themselves; they are high-calibre, already recognised individuals with Edinburgh Fringe and TV experience.
Attending this event on a Sunday evening will set you up for the week to follow. If you’re not still in pain on Wednesday having laughed until it hurts we’ll be amazed! Only 60 or so seats left hurry and book now. Miss it at your peril! £30.00 inclusive...

Staff & Menu News
Following a particularly traumatic time looking after his wife, James our chef, has decided he needs to be nearer to home and has left. We wish James and his wife all the best in the future and thank him for all his work here.
So who is going to be the new Chef??
As a medium term measure I am dusting off my clogs, honing my old knives and hauling my chef-proportioned frame back into the kitchen. We are going to overhaul all our culinary offerings and will end up with a more dynamic, seasonally-tuned and better quality series of offerings altogether – I promise...
The biggest single talking point about our menu complications has to be our Special Offer menus which have undoubtedly widened our customer base and meant that even our most loyal supporters feel able to use us more often during the week.
For April and May we will continue to operate a fixed price menu along side our other offerings. Prices for these menus will be:
- Monday to Saturday lunchtimes and Monday to Thursday evenings ~ £10 for two courses
- Friday and Saturday evenings a fixed price menu of two courses for £15 will be on offer.
These are going to be on a more free-flow basis than before but with a similar range.

JAZZ CLUB AND LUNCHES
The second meeting of the jazz club proved another great success - even if our booking procedure has got everyone confused!
You can book either with us or direct with Malcolm Johnson of J J Jazz. Unfortunately just booking a table to eat with us does not entitle you to entry to the jazz club as it is run on an entirely separate basis.
Entry to the jazz is only for those partaking of the jazz supper before 9.30 and afterwards only as space allows. It is easier to get into the Bank of England vaults! Confused? So you should be!
Those of you unsure about the suitability of a “seedy” jazz club might like to consider the more refined and genteel sampling of this genre at two special jazz Sunday lunches. J J Jazz are playing on the 6th and 27th April. This is foot-tapping syncopating jazz at its easy-going best!

PERFECTLY FRANK
23rd May
Tribute bands have a lot to live up to! You couldn’t really set yourself a bigger task than to try to match up to the arch crooner “Old Blue Eyes”.
We have consulted widely and are assured that - to be Perfectly Frank - this outfit gets ridiculously close to their extraordinarily presumptuous name. Fronted by David ‘the voice’ Knopov they are a seriously polished outfit and we can, as usual, guarantee a top quality experience.
Perfectly Frank have an excellent website with heaps of biographical info, reviews, downloads etc.. at www.perfectlyfrank.fsnet.co.uk.
I’ve written so many menus lately that I’m not going to compose the Sinatra menu until a little later. Suffice to say, it will be a quality offering in keeping with the rest of the event and tickets will be £30 to include a three-course dinner.
