The most important Sunday in the whole year - without question! - is almost upon us...
The best way to spoil dear old or not so old, mum, is to bring her to The Walls – thyat way you get out of the washing up!
This year we are operating our world-famous carvery from 12 noon until 5pm. In the evening we revert to our usual menus from 7pm onwards i.e. the fixed price WORMS menu and the à la carte menu.
As of today we still have some space left for later bookings (2pm onwards) and for the evening menus. Prices at lunchtime are £20 for an adults and £11 for a child for three courses. Under fours eat free.
ART EXHIBITIONS
There are very few days in the year when the walls of the Cae Glas room are not adorned with artworks. Currently the exhibition is by Allana Piesse – Rosie’s mum - and is of a very high quality.
For the entire month of April and front half of May we have an exhibition of works by the sadly, late, great Chris Dunbabin.
Chris is greatly missed and it is some comfort that at least with an artist, there is a tangible legacy in the form of his paintings. A complicated human being is likely to produce complicated paintings and Chris’s work supports this supposition.
Stating the bleedin' obvious, there are no more ‘Dunbabins’ being produced so this is the last chance to buy and, by doing so, help his widow Carol through a hard time in her life. Since starting to plan this event, Carol has been run over by a car and spent some time in hospital. Thankfully, she is recuperating well and we wish her a speedy recovery.
The exhibition runs 6th of April until 17th May, open from 10am till late most days. Please note, though, there is bridge in the exhibition room on Wednesday and Thursday evenings and until 1pm on a Wednesday morning.
I would also like to bring to your attention the newly opened gallery in the old malthouse in Willow street. Peter Vidal has done an amazing job in one of Oswestry’s finest old buildings.
STRANGER BY THE MINUTE AND MARILLION
Recently, Mr ‘Fix It’ Phil Beaumont, bounded in like a tiger to announce that shortly we’d be in a position to go public with dates for these two incestuous rock institutions.
In a dramatic role reversal, it is now me that is chasing his tail trying to secure info on these two.
As of today all we can say is that these amazing nights will be scheduled ASAP – watch this space...
Also the obscenely talented guitarist AZIZ is seriously threatening to come and play very soon!
STRANGER BY THE MINUTE AND MARILLION
Possible upcoming events...
We all know what Rachael is like with projects – the latest idea she’s rattling around is ‘Humpty’s Event Corner’.
She is trying her best to convince me that this year, with its depressing mood and economic downturn, you’ll all be up for some light entertainment and in true ‘ask the audience' style (you’ll get the drift later on), we are asking your opinions on some of Rachael’s shortlist of ideas.
I’m a great believer in democracy and am excited about the prospect of canvassing opinion as to whether these events are the sort of thing you could get dressed up for or indeed whether you have any better ideas of your own. So here goes...
Bollywood Nights - an Indian themed menu, dance and music: A CHANCE TO DRESS UP!
Guest Medium – a two-course meal followed by an dimly-lit intimate evening with a medium. After all, our very own staff can vouch for the ghostly goings on at The walls – the ideal setting?
Wine and Cheese Evening – a really good night of top notch wines and smelly cheeses
Summer Ball – complete with posh frock, summer punch and a great band
James Bond Evening – interesting menu followed by a chance to lose some pretend money at the casino, complete with roulette and blackjack.
Bonfire Night (with a twist) – all the traditional foods such as jacket spuds, burgers and hotdogs, an indoor firework display and great games for the kids including bobbing for apples.
Slumming It - in recognition of the brilliant British film Slumdog Millionaire, a quiz night of quality. Details yet to be considered but a suggested two team battlement with audience participation is on the cards.
