Christmas and New Year are very important to us and as you’d expect we take it as seriously as we are able to take anything. We struggle to not compromise our food standards, despite huge numbers of meals being served. We buy fresh local produce and try very hard not to ruin it! Not as easy as you might think!
We’ve stuck with the parts of the formula that have worked in past years and despite the allegedly tricky economic climate we’ve hardly increased our prices at all.
It’s important to continue to let one's hair down (all supposing you’ve got any left to let down), so it seems to us that we need to get ready to party. Our New Year’s Eve offering is truly spectacular with the highlight being the amazing high energy dance band – ‘Superbad’.
This group has played at a number of private events at The Walls and we’ve always been blown away by their stage show musicianship and all-round good time vibe. They are a truly danceable, dance band! All this on top of one of our hugely popular and reliable retro dinners, built on the solid foundation of old classics.
The menus are all up on the web site and can be found by clicking HERE together with all the appropriate booking information and prices. If you need any other information please don't hesitate to get in contact.
Two Little Boys... and around 70 burly men
The best thing about being involved in The Walls, is that you never really know what you are likely to be asked to do next.
As I write this the Fitzallan wing is booming to the glorious sound of the Froncysylte the male voice choir and ‘can you tell what is it is yet?’ Mr Rolf Harris singing ‘Two Little Boys’ being recorded by the BBC and Universal – how random is that?
From early this morning the building has been a veritable hive of activity, with technicians, directors, lighting and sound boards and burly chaps in sensible blazers. Rolf is really good fun and he can sing a bit too! We’ll let you know later when it makes it onto the telly. Well done Fron choir!
Rachael’s Appetite ~ project woman rides again!
We all know, how gloriously driven Rachael, our manager is! She’s never happier than when he’s got her teeth into a project – and lately she’s really been on a roll.
Her most recent mission is to put together an exhibition of the building during its time as a school and a little bit of more recent history. We hope to make a virtual tour archive of the exhibition on the website.
But for the month of December, in the Cae Glas room, we will be exhibiting a host of artefacts, photographs and all manner of things connected to the building. Any of you with old school photos that you’d lend us to make copies, will receive a mention and a £5.00 Walls gift voucher for your trouble. We hope you’ll enjoy the exhibition and archive.
OUTSIDE CATERING
I bet not many of you know that we are really good at outside catering!
We have all the equipment to successfully look after up to 200 guests in the venue/marquee of your choice. We also have a marquee of our own which is big enough for a sit down meal for 40. We advise you on every aspect of the event and if you’d prefer we can deal with the hire companies on your behalf, for bigger events.
Outside catering is an expensive option, but if you have a setting or location that has special meaning for you then we would be thrilled to add The Walls magic to it. Our normal wedding prices apply to food and drink provision, any extra charges relate only to costs we incur in setting up the venue.
Marquee Hire: for our marquee fully set up with furniture, linen, glasses, cutlery etc – decorated with lining and flooring - £1000. Larger marquees – as per quote.
We have a proven track record of providing impeccable food and service on location. Please feel free to talk to Geoff or Rachael about your requirements.
OUTSIDE CATERING
Ever hopeful/convinced that a little humour, however contrived, helps with the retention of information and in a shame-faced attempt to continue to provide extraordinary value, in the face of alarming increases in our operating costs, we proudly launch our revamped fixed price menu.
Catchingly entitled ‘Worms for Early Birds', it is a little more structured version of our previous arrangements and is easier for those of you wanting to bring us parties of up to 30.
As we are busy organising new menus and arrangements it would be a good time to point out a significant change to our policy regarding the billing arrangements for large tables. Invariably when it comes to billing large tables, whenever parties request to be allowed to pay as individuals or couples, we end up out of pocket.
It’s not that anybody means to avoid paying their full part of the bill, its just not always possible for someone to have perfect recall of all the items they’ve purchased over a three hour stay with us.
So we are delighted to provide you with one completely itemised bill and your nominated treasurer must collect the payment to cover the bill. I hope and trust you will see the need and the fairness of this system. We can of course always organise fixed price options should you wish.
Thanking you for your understanding, Geoff and Kate
Francis Dunnery is an English musician. He was a founding member of the 1980s band It Bites. Although he started on drums, he later became the lead singer and guitarist of the group, and maintained this position until he left in 1990 to pursue a solo career. The band left Egremont and moved to London in 1984 and signed a record contract with Virgin Records.
It Bites released three studio albums, The Big Lad in the Windmill (1986), Once Around the World (1988) and the critically acclaimed Eat Me in St Louis (1989). Their final album, the live swan song Thank You and Goodnight was released in 1990.
It Bites' biggest hit single was "Calling All The Heroes" in 1986, which reached #6 in the UK Single Chart.
It Bites eventually re-formed in 2006 and toured the UK in November/December 2006, with a new studio album, The Tall Ships, in September 2008. Dunnery is now touring the USA and then Great Britain, before heading back to the States.
Previously seen at The Walls, Dunnery guarantees a rocking night!
