Welcome to our wine list.
I personally have a great deal of fun putting this list together and then continually tinkering with it. Endless tasting eventually takes its toll and I find myself having to take sanctuary in a little something from the top shelf (it’s just the same with magazines). Wine is much less of a minefield than it was when we opened in 1993, I rarely see a poor wine these days and so the skill is now in deciding whether or not they represent value for money.
Wine is however most definitely a product that you really do mostly get what you pay for. This having been said, I’d be (and often am) more than happy to drink any of our house wines - well apart from the sweet one! Radically and for ease of under-standing we have made the price of our house wines all the same. So no more shocks when the bill has a £7.00 glass of Chardonnay! Our list is now set out in the following manner:
- APERITIFS
- CHAMPAGNES & SPARKLING WINES
- HOUSE WINES: A good selection of reds & whites by the glass & bottle
- GUZZLERS: Our reasonably priced selection of wines
- QUAFFERS: Our mid range offerings from across the globe
- SIPPERS: Real top end offerings for connoisseurs, millionaires and Flash Harrys
We have undone most of the highly technical gobbledy gook about “malolactic fermentation and the like” & so no more Jilly Goulden ramblings about creosote and the scent of butterfly armpits. They are replaced with my usual idiotic ramblings. Some of the more observant of you may also notice that we have brought the prices down on several...
Suffice to say that wines, prices and vintages DO change periodically.
Happy Quaffing!
